Clinton Hill Brooklyn Brownstone
“Modern Decor, Built-in Banquette Turn Narrow Clinton Hill House Into Chic Family Home”
— Brownstoner
Interior design commission in Brooklyn NY. Built in 1890, the Brooklyn townhouse is located on Washington Avenue and features original wood beams and brick walls. Many of the furniture pieces in the home were designed by James and Christine, including the bed, concrete tables in the living room, and a luxurious blackened steel dining table. Stewart-Schafer’s intentional approach to design merges their love of contemporary art and Mid-Century design with international architectural influences, and this process especially rings true in this project. The home boasts an exquisite collection of Mid-century designer pieces including an Arne Norell lounge chair, a Paul McCobb credenza and Herman Miller dining chairs, which they smartly pair with contemporary furnishings such as a B&B Italia sofa and an Apparatus light fixture.
Always on the hunt for one-of-a-kind art and objects, this home features plush throws from Iceland, vintage blankets from Wales, lighting from Amsterdam, and antique ceramics from Italy, England and France. The sun-drenched home is filled with an extensive collection of contemporary art including many pieces by their favorite artist Victor Pasmore.
